Welcome to the RaymondsReef Historical Naval section. This area is dedicated to the people of Bell Island Newfoundland Canada who in September 1942 suffered the first of two German U-boat attacks. The story of what happened is well documented ( watch the recent CTV W5 documentary at http://watch.ctv.ca/news/#clip232707 ) but for the first time a German perspective can now be given regarding the first encounter. A detailed window of events starting with the commissioning  of the U-513 at a Hamburg shipyard through to her return to the safe haven of a bunker in occupied France after 77 days at sea.

Many sources of reference have been used to make this project possible but I would especially like to thank the 'Captains daughter' for her help in translating the KTB of her father's boat. Excellent resource material can be found on the web and the following websites in the links/contact section can be highly recommended for further study. This is not a website specializing in U-boat warfare, just a short illustrated period of one man and his boat.....a window into the past.
